Like the change of the seasons, new LOINC versions always come around. LOINC 2.68 is out and available.
We’ve all been hearing about the shortage of SARS-CoV-2 testing kits and materials, but there’s another shortage in the labs that hasn’t been widely mentioned.
When a new LOINC version is released, The Eagles song ‘Life in the Fast Lane’ always comes to mind.

I recently attended the June 2018 Laboratory LOINC Conference in Indianapolis to get the latest LOINC updates. I have attended many previous meetings, but this time was special. My colleague Pam Banning received this year’s LOINC Award for Distinguished Contributions!
Many laboratory test panels include an expert review for overall interpretation as one of the results returned.
In the industry there are many available methods, such as Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), Ligase Chain Reaction (LCR), and Transcription-Mediated Amplification (TMA), for detecting infectious disease through molecular diagnostics.
